What WOULD you do if you won the lottery? How would life be different IF you lived in Germany? The Konjunktiv II lets you talk about hypothetical situations, wishes, polite requests, and things that aren't real. It's the German equivalent of English 'would.'

German has TWO ways to form Konjunktiv II: (1) würde + infinitive (most common, works for all verbs), (2) special Konjunktiv II forms (wäre, hätte, könnte, etc.). This lesson focuses on the würde-form, which is the easiest and most versatile.

English uses 'would + verb': I WOULD go, she WOULD help, they WOULD come. German works similarly with 'würde + infinitive': Ich WÜRDE gehen, sie WÜRDE helfen, sie WÜRDEN kommen.
