How do you talk about the future in German? Use WERDEN + infinitive! Ich werde morgen kommen. It is like English will: I will come tomorrow.

German works similarly: werden (conjugated) + infinitive at the END. Ich werde gehen. But werden changes for each person: ich werde, du wirst, er wird...

English: I will go, she will come, we will see. Will + infinitive. Simple!

Why you need this Plans, predictions, promises: I will help you. It will rain. We will see each other again.

Ich werde morgen nach Berlin fahren.

I will go to Berlin tomorrow.

werden is conjugated (werde), the main verb (fahren) stays as infinitive at the END.

Future tense is essential for making plans, predictions, and promises. Master werden and you can talk about anything that will happen!

werden is irregular: ich werde, du wirst, er wird. Memorize these forms!

du uses wirst, not werdest. werden is irregular!

werden = position 2 (conjugated). Infinitive = END of sentence. Same as modal verbs!

Common Mistakes

✗ Ich werde kommen morgen.

✓ Ich werde morgen kommen.

Infinitive (kommen) must be at the END of the sentence.

Present Tense for Future

Präsens für Zukunft

Germans often use PRESENT tense + time word for future! Both are correct.

With Future Tense	With Present Tense
Ich werde morgen kommen.	Ich komme morgen.
Er wird nächste Woche arbeiten.	Er arbeitet nächste Woche.
Wir werden im Sommer reisen.	Wir reisen im Sommer.

In everyday German, present tense + time word (morgen, nächste Woche) is more common than Futur I!

Ich komme morgen = I am coming tomorrow = I will come tomorrow. All mean the same!

When to Use Futur I

Futur I emphasizes certainty, promises, or predictions.

Use Futur I for...	Example
Predictions	Es wird regnen.
Promises	Ich werde dir helfen.
Assumptions	Er wird wohl krank sein.
Formal announcements	Wir werden das Projekt starten.

Futur I sounds more formal/certain. For casual plans, Germans prefer present tense + time word.
